About Me

Throughout my life, rescuing animals has always been foremost on my mind.   In my teen years, I rescued my horse (Buddy) from a slaughterhouse, and this helped me develop a strong conviction to help those animals in need. In high school I helped teach hospice kids and their families how to ride horses. In college, I volunteered as a youth mentor in Bellingham at Animals as Natural Therapy, mentoring youth with adverse life situations on how to use their bond and partnership with horses to navigate relationships in their own lives.  This opportunity allowed me to combine the Psychology degree I was pursing with my love of animals, and to see the magnitude of the beneficial impact that these animals can have on people.

After college, I took time to work as an animal caregiver at Emerald City Pet Rescue. I learned just how much need there is to help these animals heal both emotionally and physically, and how forgiving they can be with love and a gentle touch. I spent a few years working as a Research Coordinator for a Digital Therapeutics Company before working at Motley Zoo Animal Rescue as a Volunteer Coordinator. After college, I rescued Paddy, a senior cat who had hyperthyroidism, heart failure, and kidney failure.  While I only got to have the pleasure of taking care of her for 2 years, her companionship and spirit was life-changing, especially during the pandemic. Throughout the pandemic, I also rescued a senior miniature horse (her name is Jamaica) that was abandoned at the barn where I boarded my horse, Buddy. We do not know how old she was, but she had never had her teeth done (horrible, teeth growing into her cheeks) and she needed lots of vet care. Once we got her in better health, she lived the absolute best life.

Unfortunately, in the last couple years, I have lost Buddy (around 30 years), Jamaica (very old, unknown age), and Paddy. While I knew that this was the result of rescuing senior animals, it has been a heart-wrenching year.  However, my husband and I also adopted a rescue pup named Elora, who has been our pride and joy for the last year.  When Elora was just a little baby, her mama was shot dead for searching for food in some trash on the streets - but Elora and the rest of the babies survived! She is the sweetest, most vibrant dog, and having the privilege of being her person has been life changing.   Whether it is seeing an injured hummingbird in the road and driving hours to bring it to a wildlife rehabilitation center, or advocating for adopting pets at local events, rescue has always been my top priority and my purpose in life.

I know how hard it is to leave your fur babies, which is why I love animal sitting!  I love to give people peace of mind, that when they leave, their babies are in good loving hands.

Buddy (~30 years)

I rescued Buddy when I was just 11 years old! Buddy has since crossed the rainbow bridge, but I will forever be grateful and honored for the 16 years I was able to have with him.

Our Team

Jamaica (20+ years)

Jamaica was a miniature horse that was abandoned at the ranch where we had Buddy. She had never had vaccines, dental work, or good nutrition. We got her all caught up on those things, and she lived a wonderful quality of life for her last few years with us. I wish I was able to spend more time with her - Jamaica passed the rainbow bridge in 2022.

Paddy (~13 years)

Our family rescued Paddy during the pandemic because we knew that as a senior kitty with lots of health issues (kidney failure, heart failure, hyperthyroidism), she was unlikely to be adopted.  I wanted her to experience a loving family for whatever senior life she had left. Paddy lived her best life with us - great food, lots of sitting in the sun in the grass and on the patio, and people surrounding her and telling her how loved she was.  Paddy crossed the rainbow bridge near Thanksgiving of 2022, surrounded by family, friends, and our amazing vets who came to our house so that Paddy could be comfortable the entire time.

Ziggy (8 years)
Xena  (5 years)

I have had Ziggy and Xena since I was in college! Ziggy would come to class with me, he was the major star of many parties, and to this day they brighten up everyone's face when they come out to cuddle. They are the weirdest, most wonderful little companions.

Elora (1 year)

My husband and I adopted Elora in September of 2022. She is part german shepherd, husky, and cattle dog. She loves every person and every dog she meets.

Spike (less than 1 year)

My husband and I were fostering a litter of feral kittens that were ditched near my sister-in-law's house, and one of them (the most feral, would hiss and bite if you even looked at him) bonded with our pup, and now he is the most snuggly sweet kitten. So we had to keep him, their bond is just too special. The other kittens were all adopted too.
